Rumer Willis, the eldest daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, revealed that the name she and her boyfriend, Derek Richard Thomas, chose for their baby came about due to a typo, which she describes as “divine intervention.”
“We were initially considering the name Loretta, but a typo led to it being spelled Louetta,” the actress told People magazine. “Her dad and I were texting, and he accidentally left out the ‘R,’ so it became Louetta.”
Willis and Thomas welcomed their daughter, Louetta Isley Thomas Willis, at home on April 18.
“I immediately loved the name Louetta,” Willis said. “It felt like a moment of divine intervention. We decided on it quite early in my pregnancy.”
As a first-time mom, Willis admitted she had concerns about whether the name would suit her daughter once she was born.
“I fell in love with the name so early on that I worried it might not fit her,” she said. “But when she was born, it felt right. I was set on naming her Lou, regardless of whether she was a boy or a girl.”
Willis appreciated the name’s versatility, noting that Louetta could be shortened to Lou or Etta, allowing her daughter to choose as she grows.
In a recent Instagram post, Willis celebrated her postpartum body, reflecting on the physical changes and the joy of nurturing her daughter.
“This body of mine, which I spent years trying to shape, has now grown and nourished a person,” Willis wrote. “It’s softer and rounder, and that’s okay—it’s amazing because I created a life. My body provides nourishment and comfort for Lou, and that’s a gift.”
On Father’s Day, Willis shared a touching photo of her father holding his first grandchild, expressing her deep gratitude.
“Seeing my father hold my daughter was a moment I will treasure forever,” she wrote. “His love for her is so pure and beautiful.”
Bruce Willis, who was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia earlier this year, has two other grown daughters with Moore, Tallulah and Scout, and two young daughters with his wife, Emma Heming: Mabel, 11, and Evelyn, 9.
