Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden have welcomed their second child, a son named Cardinal. The couple announced the birth on Instagram, sharing their joy with fans:
“We are blessed and excited to announce the birth of our son, Cardinal Madden. He’s wonderful, and we’re all thrilled to have him with us! For the privacy and safety of our family, we won’t be sharing photos, but he’s absolutely adorable,” they wrote. “Sending love from our family to yours. Best wishes and good afternoon!”
Diaz, 51, and Madden, 45, who married in 2015, previously welcomed their first child, a daughter named Raddix, in 2019.
Following the birth of Raddix, Diaz expressed to Rolling Stone that she had entered a fulfilling new chapter in her life: “In the last seven months, I’ve entered the best phase of my life: motherhood! My focus has been on my home and family, and participating thoughtfully in the important societal conversations of our time.”
In a December interview on Molly Sims’ podcast, “Lipstick on the Rim,” Diaz discussed her views on relationships and personal space: “I think we should normalize separate bedrooms. I envisioned having separate spaces where we each can retreat and then come together as needed.” However, she clarified, “I don’t feel that way now because my husband is so wonderful. I said that before I got married.”
Diaz, who has largely stepped away from the public eye, previously told InStyle why she chose to step back from Hollywood: “I started experiencing fame when I was 22, so for 25 years — that’s a long time. I’ve given a significant part of my life to the public, and now I’m taking time for myself. I don’t miss performing. It’s refreshing to live privately and focus on what truly matters to me.”
Reflecting on her marriage, Diaz praised her husband: “Marrying Benji was the best thing that ever happened to me. He’s a great partner and a wonderful human being. I’m grateful for him and enjoy living my life on my own terms.”
